• Umahi condemns attack, demands arrest, prosecution of culprits
The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Steve Orogwu, yesterday escaped death as gunmen invaded his country home, killing three of his relatives.
The gunmen also killed a security guard on duty, and burnt down the family house of the Orogwus.
Mr Steve Orogwu, Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Council told newsmen that the hoodlums attacked Ekpaomaka, his country home, killed his elder brother, two of his brother’s sons and a security guard.
He said the assailants also set his family house ablaze.
“They attacked my house at night and killed my elder brother and two of his sons; they killed our security guard and also set the family house ablaze,’’ he said.
He said the bodies were deposited at a morgue in Abakaliki.
Police spokesperson DSP Loveth Odah declined comment as she said she was away on official assignment.
But a credible police source said the attackers would be unmasked and brought to justice.
Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru condemned the attack.
Nwifuru, a governorship aspirant, said the state government would toughen the security measures and redouble its efforts to root out criminals.
Governor David Umahi condemned the attack, describing the attack as inhumane, vicious and barbaric.
Umahi called on security agencies to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
