The Imo State Police Command on Saturday confirmed that the House of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma at his Omuma hometown in Oru East local government area of the state, was attacked with a petrol bomb but the hoodlums did not succeed in burning the house as only vehicles were damaged.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Orlando Ikeokwo, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, while reacting to the governor’s house attack.

The hoodlums,  he said, were successfully repelled by security operatives. However, he confirmed that the hoodlums killed an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, during the attack.

He further said that as the hoodlums were trying to escape they killed two security operatives at Mgbidi Junction, a police Sergeant and another NSCDC, officer.

He said: “Yes, I can confirm the story, the hoodlums attacked the Governor’s House by throwing in Petrol bomb as a result of which two cars were burnt, but they were successfully reppelled.

“And none of the buildings was set ablaze, however, one unarmed personnel of the NSCDC was killed in the process, the hoodlums while escaping also killed a Police Sergeant and another NSCDC personnel both in there private vehicles at Mgbidi junction.”

Reports said that the same hoodlums who carried the attack on the Imo governor’s house were responsible for similar attacks in other places.

The attack on Governor Uzodinma's residence came barely 24 hours after he visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and told State House Correspondents that the acts of banditry ravaging the country, including the wave of violent attacks and killings in the South East, were the handiwork of enemies of the President, intent on pulling down his government and halting the giant developmental achievements he was making in the country.

Hear him: “From 2015 till today, I thought what the problem would be is people saying that there is no job creation, people are not feeding, salaries are not paid, infrastructures are going down, social interventions are not approved by the government.

“These things are there, available, a passmark for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Now, people are no longer talking about that, rather what they are doing is to sponsor crisis, to the extent that those funding this banditry are politicians, which I challenge and call on security agencies to make their names available to the press because what they want to do is to distract a government that is focused.

“If this government is not doing well, I will be one of those that will declare that the government is not doing well, but a situation where you will live the formal way, ethical way of doing politics, and you are now sponsoring banditry to bring down a government, for Christ’s sake, we should rise up and condemn it, all of us.

”This is a security issue, a lot of investigations are going on here and there, preliminary reports are there. People are furthering the investigations. I think I have given you something to go home with. When you go home, think about it and do the homework by yourself.”
