Anarchy has overtaken Nigeria, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has bemoaned the increasing violence and insecurity in the country,  saying the country had become ‘a giant killing field' as anarchy has overtaken the country.

The party expressed disappointment that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has become practically powerless in securing citizens’ lives and property.

Rising from its national caucus meeting in Asokoro, Abuja, PDP observed that government’s presence has become meaningless, as it is no longer felt.”

The meeting, which was presided over by the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, also lamented that, “effective policing and security is no longer guaranteed, especially for ordinary citizens.”

Reading a communique at the end of the meeting, Secondus disclosed that the interactive meeting had a single agenda, “which was to appraise the worrisome security situation in the country.”

According to the communique, the state of anarchy is so widespread that every state is affected. “Criminals have taken control of most aspects of our life. Terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, arson and mindless killing of even security agents is ravaging the land.”

“Nigeria has become one giant killing field. The state is helpless and unable to solve the problem. The presence of government is no longer felt. Everyone is on his own. It is as if Nigeria has no government again.”

The meeting also noted the unrestricted expansion of Boko Haram into newer and inner territories close to the seat of government in Abuja.

The party raised an alarm at the capitulation of the security agencies and President Muhamadu Buhari’s APC government, adding, “in the view of the meeting, President Buhari has failed the people at a time of grave national crises.”

In attendance at the meeting were three governors, including Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Ishaku Darius of Taraba State.

Others are Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and the lawmaker representing Federal Capital Territory, Senator Tanimu Aduda, former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and chairman of the party’s disciplinary committee, Chief Tom Ikimi.

At its 91st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja last Thursday, PDP had identified the worsening insecurity across the country as a major threat to the 2023 general elections.

It also charged President Buhari to urgently convene a national security summit to deliberate on the way forward.

It noted that the situation in the country is too dangerous, just as it lamented that life has become too cheap, with killings taking place almost across every part of the country on a daily basis.

“All the ‘noise’ for 2023 will amount to naught, if the security challenges are not drastically addressed,” Secondus said.
