Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace, called on Nigerians not to be discouraged by the recent separationist events, insisting that Nigerians have an interest in living as one united nation.

Onyema gave the advice while speaking to passengers aboard flight 7120, operated by the airline’s Boeing 777, from Lagos to Abuja on Wednesday.

He told them that with natural and human resources abounding in the country, Nigeria would make a great nation and be the envy of the world.

He said the current challenges could be the key to unlocking the country’s full potential to achieve greatness if citizens can work together.

Onyema added that the people of the country are a huge benefit and blessings.

“Nigeria is for all of us and the greater Nigeria is the best thing that can happen to us.

“We don’t need to balkanize this country.

“Our diversity should be our strength, not our albatross. Let’s make it work.

“Let’s stop engaging in blame games, rather than engaging in ethnic stigmatization,” he said.

The airline boss told passengers that the United States is a conglomerate of people of various nationalities, who work together to build a great nation.

He said the United States is the melting pot of all ethnicities in the world, where there are Igbo Americans, Fulani Americans, Yoruba Americans, and Americans from England, Russia and other parts of the world.

Onyema added that yet when these people get the passport, they profess America.

“In my country, with all our abilities, the first thing we profess is our ethnicity; I am Igbo, Yoruba or I am Hausa.

“This country can be better than it is.”

He said it was not the government’s fault, but that “it is the collective efforts of all that could make it work, not just government alone.”

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) recalls that Onyema saved Nigerians from South Africa during xenophobic violence in 2019, by using his plane to bring Nigerians home for free. (NAN)
