Godfrey Okoye University honors Mbah, Ijioma, Spendeleager with PhD

Two eminent Nigerians  Dr. Barr. Peter Mbah, the Chairman/Chief Executive of Pinnacle Oil and donor of Godfrey Okoye University Peter Mbah Law Auditorium, Dr. Marksman Chinedu Ijioma and an Austrian, Dr. Michael Spendeleager  were honoured with honorary doctorate degrees during the 8th and 9th convocation ceremony of the university.

In an address at the event, The proprietor of Godfrey Okoye university and the Bishop Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Most Reverend Dr Callistus Onaga advocated for more physical contacts learning within the classroom than virtual classes 

Most Rev Dr Onaga stated that although the virtual learning class is a solution to the problems associated with learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it must not take preference over the physical contacts learning within the classroom.

He noted that character formation of students and social integration can not be achieved in a virtual world and students who convoke must be found worthy in character and learning.

The University Chancellor and the ArchBishop of Abuja Metropolitan, His Grace Most Rev Dr Ignatius Ayau Kaigama in an address, expressed gratitude to God for the countless blessings on the university, stressing that the speed with which the university grows, discipline and successes of it's students, peace and tranquility enjoyed in the university reveals God's divine benevolence on the university.

The Chancellor thanked the university's benefactors, the university's proprietor Most Rev Dr callistus Onaga, the Vice Chancellor Rev father Professor Christian Anieke, the Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Bartho Okolo and, members of the University's Senate, members of the Governing Council, and the administrative staff for all their support, prayers and efforts which led to the tremendous successes achieved in the university.

The Vice Chancellor, Rev father Professor Christian Anieke in his convocation address highlighted the achievements of the university within the last academic year despite the challenges of the  COVID-19 pandemic.

The achievement which according to him included, building of the Faculty of Law Auditorium, successful hosting of all Nigerian Catholic Bishops during their second plenary meeting in the state, the establishment of the Gouni European business park, full accreditation of all the university courses, NUC approval to run phD programs, approval for a commercial Radio among many others.

The VC congratulated the graduates, stating that the university has prepared them to face and conquer the world.

 He urged them to be worthy ambassador of the university and offered his priestly blessing.

 In their separate remarks, the recipients reaffirmed their continued support to the university.

Meanwhile, International migration has been defined as the movement of people across state borders in search of Greener pasture or opportunities within a defined period of time

The Godfrey Okoye University 8th and 9th  convocation lecturer Dr Michael Spindlegger made the remarks in a convocation lecture to mark the event.

Dr spindlegger who spoke on the topic" the challenges of migration in the 21st century" defined refugee as people moving across state borders in search of international protection

He highlighted the three types of migration as Regular or legal migration, irregular or illegal migration and refugee or asylum seekers.

He attributed the increasing numbers of international migration across the globe to the impact of civil unrest, different income distribution across the globe, social economic development and demography.

Dr Spindlegger expressed worry at the future impact of international migration and the European union approach to solving the problem which according to him was fussed into African- European partnership, ESME projects and also GOUNI-European business park project. 

The Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University Most Rev Dr Ignatius Kaigama in an interview, stated that the issues of international migration is not peculiar to any nation but a global affair which Nigeria as a country is also involved.

He emphasized that if international migration is properly coordinated and planned, it can be productive.

He urged the Nigerian and African government to ensure that the problem of illegal migration is addressed to minimize the numbers of causalities recorded from the act.

The vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University Rev father Professor Christian Anieke described the convocation lecture as informative and educating.

He eulogized the convocation lecturer, Dr Michael Spindlegger as one of best in the field of international migration noting the the lecture has exposed the potential Africa has in terms of demography stressing that when properly annexed through functional educational system, proper skill acquisition, the problem of illegal migration could be curbed. 

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of Godfrey Okoye University European Business Park, the Vice president of Nigeria professor yemi osinbanjo Said GOUNI- European industrial business park , a private public partnership is a bridge building project between Nigerian and Europe 

The vice president who was represented by the Director General of National Agency for prohibition of trafficking in persons, Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi explained that the initiative had proved that buhari's administration is committed to advancing the role of private sector to significantly boost Nigeria's local and foreign investment which according to him is geared towards facilitating investment climate in Nigeria, creat jobs and provide training opportunities for the youth.

The vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye university Reverend father Professor Christian Anieke in an address stated that the industrial park a private public sector component with funding by the Austrian Development bank , European investment bank and the German government through the German Agency for international cooperation  will provide an Eco friendly economic community with adequate recreational facilities and flawless security.

He noted that the GOUNI-European business park will address the problem of lack of skilled labour in the nation , provide training opportunities for the youths and reduce unemployment and unemployability among the graduating youths.

The former foreign minister of the Republic of Austria Dr Michael Spindlegger in an address described the vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye university Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke as the brain and spirit behind the project.

He noted that the problem of migration is a universal phenomenal in the world and to reduce the number of irregular migration from Nigeria to Europe gave birth to the idea of the GOUNI-European business park.

The Enugu State governor chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in an address  stated that the challenges of the youth recently has transcended from unemployment, under employment to unemployability due to inadequacy of opportunity, poverty of skills caused by a non functional educational system.

He noted that the strategy of using academic institution to boost productive in business was once model in USA and has proved effective and can be replicated in the GOUNI-European business park urging the university to pursue it dreams.

He noted that his administration has opened up the state for investors when it organized its first investment submit in 2016 tagged Oganiru Ndi Enugu.
