Liverpool and Chelsea secured a place in next season’s Champions League at the expense of Leicester City, on a dramatic final day of the Premier League season.

Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 2-0 to finish third, while Chelsea — who play in next week’s Champions League final — came fourth despite a 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa.

Leicester led Tottenham Hotspur twice only to lose 4-2 to wind up finishing fifth, while guaranteeing the visitors a place in next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League, at the expense of Arsenal.

Kane’s goal against Leicester means he finished as the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner with 23 goals, as Mohamed Salah failed to find the net against Palace.

Who qualified for the Champions League?

Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Palace, with both goals from Sadio Mane, secured them third place in the Premier League despite a season hampered by injuries.

Chelsea, who started the day in third, knew they needed to better Leicester’s result against Tottenham to qualify but were poor against Villa as they went 2-0 down to goals from Bertrand Traore and Anwar El Ghazi. A consolation goal from Ben Chilwell was not enough to propel Chelsea to the win they needed.

Their loss, however, was mitigated by Leicester City’s capitulation against Tottenham. Leicester twice led through two Jamie Vardy penalties either side of a Kane volley, but then conceded three goals in the final 15 minutes to lose 4-2.

That result means Brendan Rodgers’ side will play Europa League football next season, as they finished a point behind Chelsea and three behind Liverpool.

What about the other European places?

West Ham secured their place in next season’s Europa League with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Southampton, thanks to a brace from Pablo Fornals and late goal from Declan Rice.

The race for a place in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League went down to the wire, with Spurs battling back to beat Leicester to finish above their north London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs twice trailed thanks to two penalties from Vardy, but two late goals from Gareth Bale ensured a 4-2 victory.

Nicolas Pepe struck twice to give Arsenal a 2-0 victory in front of the beleaguered Josh Kroenke, but that result was only good enough to move them up to eighth.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton, meanwhile, lost 3-0 to drop below Leeds United into 10th.

What else do I need to know?

Elsewhere, Nuno Espirito Santo lost his final match in charge of Wolves, with Manchester United running out 2-1 winners at Molineux.

West Bromwich Albion manager Sam Allardyce also lost his final match in the Baggies dugout. Rodrigo and England hopefuls Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford gave Leeds a 3-1 win.

Joe Willock struck yet again as Newcastle won 2-0 against Fulham, while bottom side Sheffield United clawed back some pride with a final day victory over Burnley.
