The dreaded unknown gunmen that have been terrorizing parts of the South East for sometime now struck again Tuesday painting the streets of Anambra state with the blood of innocent citizens.

This time they unleashed terror late Tuesday afternoon,  Sept 28, 2021 on residents of Eke-Nkpor Uno area of Idemili LGA of the State.

The blood-thirsty gunmen were said to have arrived through an Obosi access road and took over control of the Nkpor-Ideani-Nnobi Highway as workers and traders were leaving for home.

They left in their wake no fewer than six persons suspected to be security officers dead in the area.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the area in about three vehicles including a Venza SUV through an adjoining Obosi back road unto the Nkpor-Ideani- Nnobi Highway before selecting their targets.

The confusion that the gang's operations generated forced everyone in site to scamper for safety, while shop owners quickly locked up, running in every conceivable direction without apparently knowing where to actually take refuge.

The men all wore black jean trousers and t-shirts and bore either a gun or machete. They also bore fresh palm leaves each in their mouths, prancing gingerly on the highway controlling traffic.

The eyewitnesses said that the gunmen told all road users to maintain their move and cool as they were not there for anyone but for certain persons. They just chose their targets and either use cutlass or gun, sharply and fast, wasting not more than twenty minutes before zooming off.

One of the unfortunate victims was riding on a motorbike towards the popular Nkpor junction and was answering a call when they ran into him and gunned him down. Another was said to have had his head slashed with cutlass.

The Anambra state police command was yet to officially react to the ugly development but several patrol teams were seen by one of our reporters combing the area by press time Tuesday evening.
